Konsortium Logistik Berhad (KLB), a leading total logistics solution provider in Malaysia, has improved operational efficiency with its online warehouse management system deployed on an Oracle technology infrastructure.
-
KLB runs Symphony WMS-Online, a component of Boon Software’s Symphony Logistics Suite, on Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) for the Oracle Database.
-
Oracle RAC helped KLB improve its IT availability and throughput using multiple physical computers, enabling KLB to increase overall handling capacity and achieve 99.999% system uptime.
-
The implementation was carried out by Boon Software Consulting, a Singapore independent software vendor.
To improve operational productivity and deliver a high service level to its customers, KLB required an integrated logistics solution that was flexible and able to adapt to its fast-changing business requirements.
The existing system was not able to support the automation of KLB’s operational processes.
With Oracle RAC, KLB’s WMS-Online system benefits from continuous uptime allowing KLB to extend its capacity. By utilising lower cost commodity hardware more servers can be added into the cluster when needed. Information is available at all times, resulting in an increase in productivity and efficiency of operations.
With everything stored centrally in one Oracle Database, information is easier to maintain as concurrent updating and access is allowed through centralization. Previously, double deliveries by vendors were common as the warehouse would order parts, unaware that the customer had also already placed an order.
By using an Oracle Database to store and maintain all its data, the warehouse is able to improve the consistency and accuracy of inventory by tracking orders from the vendor and shipments to the customer. Orders keyed in by the customer service department can be processed immediately via the WMS-Online system.
The high-performance Oracle Database keeps confidential data secure and provides easy manageability, back-up and recovery processes.
Previously, KLB used its old system to maintain crucial information and manually generate reports to update their customers on a daily basis.
By using Oracle Application Server to cost-effectively deploy high-performance web applications such as the WMS-Online system, its customers now enjoy secure and near real-time access to information in all regions, enabling them to log into the system at anytime to track job status.
Oracle Application Server allows for the near real-time reporting of information in the database, and generation of customised reports based on the individual business requirements of each customer.
In all, KLB was able to significantly reduce usage of resources while optimising processes, resulting in lower total cost of ownership.
"KLB has a unique, complex and time-critical warehouse operation," said M.Baskar, Vice President of Business Process / IT, Konsortium Logistik Berhad. "Boon Software understood our complex business requirements and provided a cost effective yet high performance solution that fits on top of our operations. We were able to see a major improvement instantly on our inventory, delivery accuracy, and also a significant increase in our handling capacity. Down time is very costly for our business. With Boon Software's WMS-Online deployed on Oracle Real Application Clusters, we have achieved 99.999% system uptime."
"Customer trust and confidence in Boon Software are the major success factors in this implementation. We will continue to focus on improving the flexibility of WMS-Online for logistics in the automotive industry. Underpinned by an Oracle Database, our warehouse management solution is a critical business system for KLB, saving them time on transactions, boosting productivity and enabling them to meet delivery promises. We believe that we will be able to solidify our logistics solution with Oracle's continued innovation and commitment in product development," said Richard Goh, Project Director (KLB Implementation), Boon Software.
"We are pleased to enable Boon Software with our database, middleware and developer tools, to come up with a solution that helps KLB increase their productivity while lowering cost," said Frank Koo, managing director, Oracle Singapore.
