Call-for-Collaboration - Pervasive Wireless Access
The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is inviting the industry to participate in its Call For Collaboration (CFC) under the Wired With Wireless (WWW) programme. This CFC aims to enable pervasive wireless access in Singapore.

Currently, three wireless access technologies are emerging in Singapore. Mobile operators have launched the General Packet Radio Services (GPRS). The use of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) based on IEEE 802.11 standard is becoming prevalent in enterprises and community hotspots. More consumer appliances will be fitted with Bluetooth.

The convenience and productivity gain resulting from pervasive wireless access is significant. For example, we are potentially able to access, retrieve and exchange information whenever and wherever we are - at our workplace, public buildings, outdoor environment, community areas, and homes - without wires. The combined use of these three wireless access technologies will fundamentally change the way we work, operate and live.

Objectives

This CFC aims to:

  1. Create a test bed to demonstrate pervasive wireless access to contents and applications through the use of GPRS, 802.11 WLAN and Bluetooth technologies; and
  2. Showcase the possible integration of such wireless technologies to support the way we work and live in the enterprise, public buildings, outdoor environment, community areas and at home.

To encourage the development of pervasive wireless access, IDA is prepared to co-fund initial investments required to pilot and deploy innovative projects through this CFC.
