The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), with the support of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF), invites industry partners to develop and pilot innovative wireless applications for the Singapore Changi Airport as well as for travellers on the move.
- Eight consortia have been shortlisted for further evaluation by the CFC Evaluation Committee. The lead company of each shortlisted consortia has been informed by email.
- A Networking Session was held on 17 April 2003. See below for the registration list and slides presented. Please note that the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has provided a timeline in their slides for technology vendors interested in collaborating with them.
- Changes have been made to Section 5.2 ("Prerequisites for Participant(s)") of the Public Document as follow:
- The consortium must consist of at least one technology provider registered in Singapore with the Registry of Companies & Businesses;
- The project must be implemented in Singapore; and
- The project must include all necessary partners to implement a complete solution. [Clarification: A complete solution means that the solution must be end-to-end to the extent that there would be pilots or trials conducted with 'live' users in the course of the proposed project. Hence, each consortium should involve at least a user organisation.]
This CFC seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- Encourage companies to develop and pilot innovative wireless applications that enhance the competitiveness of Changi Airport
- Encourage the travel and infocomm industries to jointly explore business opportunities in mobile travel solutions
- Facilitate the exchange of ideas and possibilities between user companies, public agencies and technology providers.
This CFC seeks wireless applications that are related to the traveller experience. Applications could however include the use of technologies such as web services, biometrics or smart card technologies necessary to deliver a complete solution. 3 categories:
- Retail & Entertainment
- Mobile Travel Solutions
- Passenger Related & Security Operations
More details on the Smart Airport & Passenger Travel CFC can be found in the document below:
Contact information for CAAS, SPF and ICA for the purposes of this CFC can also be found in the Annexes of the above document.
Subject to such terms and conditions as specified by IDA, selected projects will benefit from disbursement grants. In addition, tehnology providers could:
- Tap on Changi Airport's high passenger volume to conduct rigorous trials
- Obtain and analyse trial users' feedback to aid the commercialisation of advanced applications
- Leverage on Changi Airport's international stature to establish a reference site for the future export of solutions.
User companies could test the value of the applications at a subsidised cost before adoption.
- Travel-related organisations
- such as airlines, travel agencies, hotels, rental car agencies, operators of travel websites and insurance companies.
- Technology providers
- such as application developers, wireless device manufacturers and network operators.
- Content providers
- such as publishers of travellers magazines or city guides, event organisers, and operators of entertainment/classifieds websites.
