About Next Gen NBN OpCo, Nucleus Connect
On 3 April 2009, pursuant to an open Request-for-Proposal (RFP) process, IDA announced the selection of Nucleus Connect as the Operating Company (OpCo) of the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN). Established in April 2009, Nucleus Connect is a wholly owned subsidiary of StarHub Ltd. As the OpCo, Nucleus Connect will design, build and operate the active infrastructure of the Next Gen NBN. IDA will provide a grant of up to S$250 million to Nucleus Connect in support of its infrastructure deployment.
Nucleus Connect is responsible for building a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) architecture using GPON and Active Ethernet network elements. The network architecture will incorporate a leading OSS/BSS platform which can provide end-to-end, real-time assurance of service quality and reliability across different operational domains and network segments. For Retail Service Providers (RSPs), the deployment of advanced technologies on Nucleus Connect's infrastructure will enable a comprehensive range of ultra-high speed and innovative next generation services to end-users.
Nucleus Connect will ensure that the prices for its services remain competitive, transparent and non-discriminatory for RSPs. Nucleus Connect is also committed to establishing an integration test-lab facility that will help RSPs trial and test out new applications and services over the Next Gen NBN's commercial deployment. Its charter also includes the commitment to attract overseas online service providers to host their content in Singapore.
Nucleus Connect has announced on 31 August 2010, that it has commenced commercial operation.
