The ASEAN e-Government and Telecoms Fellowship Programme
"We further noted Singapore's launching of an ASEAN eGovernment and Telecoms Fellowship programme next year, which will benefit mainly the newer ASEAN countries economies, and serve to augment their capabilities in two critical areas: e-Government and telecom regulation."
--- Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Chairman of the 13th ASEAN Summit.
The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has launched a fellowship programme for ASEAN countries in the areas of
e-Government and telecom regulation. The programme, intended for senior government officials and telecoms policy makers, aims to support ASEAN integration. It involves collaborative learning in areas such as ICT development policies, licensing frameworks and e-Government master-planning sessions.
e-Government and Telecoms Fellowships
Two (2) ASEAN e-Government Fellowships will be given to each ASEAN country (excluding Singapore) and two (2) ASEAN Telecoms Fellowships will be given to each CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) country in 2008. The Fellowships will be administered by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Selected candidates will be offered a five day course in Singapore, as well as opportunities for site visits to relevant Singapore government agencies and Singapore infocomm companies, to get a perspective from both users and actual implementers.
Coverage of the Fellowship
The five day course fees in Singapore will be covered by the Fellowship. Accommodation, per diem, and flights expenses will be borne by the selected Fellows. Selected candidates are expected to make their own air ticket and hotel arrangements.
Details about the course will be made available to candidates once they have been selected.
Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV) Candidates
Selected candidates from the CLMV will also be eligible for the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) funding, administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore. Selected candidates from CLMV countries will be provided with accommodation and local expenses during the course of the training in Singapore.
