Singapore's New 8-Digit Phone Numbering Format
July 27, 2001

Singapore's telecommunications industry is supported by an ever-expanding consumer market. As at March 2001, Singapore's fixed telephone lines exceeded 1.9 million, resulting in a penetration rate of 48.4%. This segment is growing so quickly that Singapore's current seven-digit numbering plan will be replaced by an eight-digit fixed line numbering plan in 2002 to cope with the increasing demand for telephone lines in a rapidly expanding infocomm market.
