Requirements on Import of Telecommunication Equipment

  1. The importer shall ensure that telecommunication equipment imported for individual / company own use complied with the relevant IDA technical specifications, i.e. Line Terminal Equipment Standards or Radio-communication Equipment Standards before use.

  2. The importer shall apply / register for the appropriate dealer's licence if the telecommunication equipment imported is for the purpose of sale or hiring out.  Importer can refer to the guidelines for dealer licence application / registration.  The importer shall ensure that the telecommunication equipment is registered with IDA before sale or hiring out for local use.  Please contact our officers at 6211 1948 / 6211 1950 for queries on the dealer's licence and 6211 1937 for queries on registration of equipment.

  3. The operation of radio-communication equipment in Singapore is subject to licensing, except for equipment which is exempted.  Please refer to the list of exemptions (S/No. 8a to 8d) on localised on-site operation of radio-communication equipment.  Please contact our officers at 6211 1905 / 6211 1912 for queries on the radio-communication network / station licence.

  4. The importer shall ensure that the telecommunication equipment imported is not prohibited under Third Schedule of the Telecommunications (Dealers) Regulations.

  5. Please note that (i) the offer for sale, sale or hiring out of a telecommunication equipment without a valid dealer licence; or (ii) possession or operation of a radio-communication equipment without a valid licence (unless an exemption has been provided for), are offences under the Telecommunications Act (Cap. 323).
