The Framework for Web Services Implementation (FWSI) Technical Committee was created under the Organisation for the Advancement of Structure Information Standards (OASIS) which is a not-for-profit global standards consortium. This technical committee was set up to facilitate the implementation of robust Web Services by defining a practical and extensible methodology consisting of implementation processes and common functional elements that practitioners can adopt to create high quality Web Services systems without re-inventing them for each implementation. Specifically, the committee will specify a set of functional elements for practical implementation of Web Services-based system.
The technical committee' standards definitions shall solve the problem of the slow adoption of Web Services due primarily to the lack of methodologies to implement Web Services and a lack of understanding of whether solutions proposed by vendors have the necessary components to reliably implement an application based on Web Services.
Spearheaded by SIMTech, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, and the Infocomm Technical Standards Committee, the technical committee now counts as its members a number of forward-looking local Web Services development organisations, such as Ecquaria, ESS Software, Readiminds, GridNode and egInnovations, as well as large multinational organisations, such as IBM, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, Sterling Commerce and RosettaNet.
The FWSI TC has submitted a couple of its developed specifications to OASIS and those are currently under public review. It is planned that the standards will be ratified as OASIS standard this year 2006.
