EdVantage Programme

EdVantage is a flagship programme by IDA with the support of the Ministry of Education (MOE). Aligned to Ministry of Education's IT Master Plans, it aims to strategically deploy infocomm to provide a learner-centric, collaborative learning environment within and beyond the classroom, thereby enabling a diverse and vibrant schools landscape in the use of infocomm technologies (ICT).

The programme seeks to harness ICT to transform the education system in Singapore. Using innovative solutions to showcase Singapore as the leader in exploiting ICT in education, it is also expected to help create revenue, opportunities and new capabilities for local infocomm enterprises in the education sector.

Spearheading Change in Education

  • IDA is a trusted partner of MOE who leverages and spearheads the innovative use of ICT to enhance learning and teaching. IDA leads in the scanning and identification of suitable technologies for use in education.
  • IDA acts as an ICT advocate, advisor and business consultant to MOE and the schools by providing project management support in the areas of ICT implementations, procurement, development and deployment of the projects.
  • IDA leads the engagement of industry partners to enable innovative services to be delivered to schools. This makes Singapore an ideal reference site for commercialisation opportunities of products and services to local and overseas markets. IDA serves as a catalyst for the scaling of best practices and the promotion of ICT innovations to all schools, thus driving the adoption of ICT in learning and teaching as well as maintaining Singapore's thought leadership in the use of ICT in Education.

FAQs

1. What are the Ministry of Education's (MOE) Master Plans?

The first masterplan for ICT in education, launched in 1997, had established a strong foundation for the use of ICT in teaching and learning. It put in place an excellent ICT infrastructure and built up the competencies of teachers and learners. Building on the foundation, MOE's second masterplan for ICT in education (mp2), which was launched in 2002, aimed to deepen this transformation. The masterplan envisions that ICT is pervasively and effectively used to enhance educational processes and structures to bring about engaged learning of pupils and enabling the "ability-driven" paradigm. Schools are empowered to experiment, optimise, contextualise and integrate the use of ICT in deeper levels.

In 2008, MOE launched its third masterplan. It represents a continuum of the vision of the first and second Masterplans i.e. to enrich and transform the learning environments of our students and equip them with the critical competencies and dispositions to succeed in a knowledge economy.

2. Does EdVantage cover adult learning and private education institutions?

EdVantage will consider adult learning and private education institutions at the later stage. In drawing the roadmap to achieve the outcomes, the iN2015 Education and Learning Sub-committee recognises the need to prioritise and focus on the public education system where transformation will have the most impact.
