IDA Collaborates with Industry to Accelerate
e-Payment Adoption in Singapore

Singapore, 30 Nov 2009Consumers can enjoy greater convenience of making payments using their CEPAS stored value cards beyond transport, with the number of contactless Point-of-Sales (POS) terminals more than quadrupling from 5,000 to almost 24,000 across various cash-based segments such as food courts, provision shops and convenience stores across Singapore.

  • Come March 2010, Singapore will reap more benefits from competitive telecommunication services as new guidelines for such services kick in. The new guidelines will apply to new or renewed contracts for all fixed-line, mobile and broadband services offered to consumers from 1 March 2010 onwards.

  • As part of Project NIMS, eleven industry representatives have been short-listed as members of the Next Generation Interactive Multimedia, Applications and Services (NIMS) Panel, which will be co-chaired by IDA and MDA. This panel will be responsible for recommending the appropriate IPTV standards that best meet the functional requirements for NIMS Common Featured Set Top Box.

  • Businesses and consumers can look forward to using Chinese characters in their website address to better reach their customers or friends who prefer Chinese web addresses. The Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC), the national registry for domain names, will be accepting initial registrations for Chinese Domain Names from 23 November 2009.
