Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee, Ministry of Communication and the Arts, and Member of Parliament for Hong Kah, at the launch of the revamped www.gov.sg portal.

The Singapore Government has launched the revamped www.gov.sg portal which will give the public access to a suite of services across all government agencies from a single platform. These include the latest government news and information, electronic services, calendar of events and directory of contact information.

RADM(NS) Sim Gim Guan, Deputy Secretary (Information and Corporate Management) MICA, said the revamp positions the www.gov.sg portal as the electronic-communications platform for the public to connect with the Singapore Government. "Over the years, with the rapid changes in infocomm technology, our people have become more sophisticated users of the Internet. The government should therefore go beyond delivering electronic-services and information online, to also providing a more holistic online experience,”
he said.

Another exciting feature of www.gov.sg is that a mobile version of the website is set up for mobile users to access the latest government news and information on-the-go. Users of iPhone, for instance, will now be able to download and access the latest government news updates from www.gov.sg's latest iPhone app. In addition, a Twitter account and RSS feeds have been set up for the public to get the latest government-related news delivered directly to their desktops.

RADM(NS) Sim said the availability of the new government-centric application on the App Store will enable iPhone users to get the latest government news and updates anywhere, anytime. This was part of a continuous effort to explore new ways to reach out to the public, particularly the increasingly mobile and younger generation, he added.

Moving forward, MICA will work on providing similar applications to make the www.gov.sg website accessible to more users on other mobile channels.
