| Nine Singapore infosecurity companies showcased their products at the Infocomm Singapore pavilion at the RSA Conference in San Francisco. |
Led by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, nine companies showcased their infocomm security technologies at the recent RSA Conference in San Francisco. The first-ever Singapore delegation to the event included Data Security Systems Solutions (http://www.dsssasia.com/), the Institute for Infocomm Research (www.i2r.a-star.edu.sg), i-Sprint Innovations (www.i-sprint.com), Ohanae (www.ohanae.com), PCS Security (www.pcs-security.com), Radian Trust (www.radiantrust.com), SecureAge Technology (www.secureage.com), ST Electronics (www.digisafe.com) and TalariaX (www.talariax.com). Here are some highlights from the Infocomm Singapore pavilion:
Security On-The-Go
 |
| Over 1,000 trial coupon codes for Ohanae’s Securworkplace were snapped up at the show. |
Ohanae's Securworkplace software converts consumer gadgets such as the ubiquitous USB flash drive, Apple iPod, smart phone and laptop computer into Security On-The-Go devices, safeguarding the users' entire online experience from the time they log in to the time they log out.
The product was successfully launched at the RSA Conference, where over 1,000 trial coupon codes were snapped up within the two and a half days of the show, said the company's Founder and Chief Executive Officer Gregory Hauw.
Securworkplace protects users from identity theft and secures their personal workplace by generating strong passwords and pins on-the-fly and encrypting the working sessions. It also deploys an advanced endpoint sanitisation system to rigorously monitor all user interactions and deletes all session footprints after the session is ended.
Every file saved during the session in the designated directory is both encrypted using strong encryption and hidden to prevent unauthorised file access. By intercepting and neutralising hostile phishing and key logging attacks, Ohanae streamlines the end-user's online access experience, while simultaneously reducing security risks.
World first from ST Electronics
 |
| ST Electronics (Info-Security), showcased the world's first USB external drive enclosure with smartcard protection. |
ST Electronics (Info-Security), a subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Electronics, showcased plug-and-play security with its DigiSAFE DiskCrypt Mobile DCM200, the world's first USB external drive enclosure with smartcard protection.
The Full Disk Encryption (FDE) product combines hardware encryption with smartcard-based 2-factor protection. Despite its comprehensive encryption features, the device is easy to use - it is immediately operable once plugged into the workstation. The device is independent of operating systems and does not require the installation of any software, thus doing away with the hassle of software upgrades and the worry of Trojan viruses.
The user simply inserts a smartcard and then enters a PIN on the device's keypad to access the hard drive. Authenticating on the keypad rather than the PC's keyboard safeguards against Trojans and keyloggers.
The DCM200 overcomes a fundamental weakness in software-based disk encryption solutions – the "cold-boot" attack in which a hacker sprays DRAM chips with inverted cans of compressed air or liquid nitrogen to access encryption keys.
Text alerts for network trouble
TalariaX's sendQuick Alert Plus is an SMS gateway that sends text alerts to IT security and network managers when a network problem is detected. Built with relevant connectors to security and network devices and with support for various messaging protocols (SNMP Trap, Syslog and SMTP email) the solution can be set up in less than five minutes to enable important SMS alerts to be sent to single or multiple users. Built-in SMS reminder and escalation features ensure message acknowledgement, and all messages are date/time stamped for monitoring and tracking purposes. The solution is telco-independent and also promises zero-maintenance.
"Having established a strong client base of more than 550 companies in Asia and Europe, TalariaX hopes to bring sendQuick to the United States and the RSA Conference forms part of the US market penetration strategy for the company," said Mr Wong Jeat Shyan of TalariaX.
Secure SMS
A new Secure SMS security solution by Data Security Systems Solutions (DSSS) enables enterprises and application providers to deliver data, content and even transactions securely over SMS using bank-and-government-grade encryption and authentication. It supports both P2P (Peer-to-Peer) models for community-based message exchanges, as well as B2C (Business-to-Consumer) models for transaction-based portals such as SMS banking and SMS stock trading.
Also making its debut at the RSA Conference was DSSS' Virtual Application Gateway – a plug-and-play gateway appliance which allows roaming users to easily access their critical office applications securely and easily.
Biometric innovations
PCS Security showcased its suite of biometric authentication and identification solutions at the RSA Conference. These included AMFIS, a compact mobile on-the-spot fingerprint biometrics verification and identification system which performs 1-to-1 or 1-to-N matches locally on the PDA or remotely with a backend database; i-Match, a mobile fingerprint verification solution that allows verifications to be performed against trusted fingerprint images; and BioVault, the world's first biometric vault generation and identity verification system that truly allows a user to identify himself using his fingerprint without disclosing any biometric or personal information.
According to Ms Kwek Siew Min, Sales Manager, PCS Security, the RSA Conference has been a good experience, providing exposure for local companies to the US market and opening up opportunities for partnerships. "It was good to hear feedback from users in US on our products. These inputs would be incorporated into our next product development cycle, where possible," she said. "We also appreciate the effort that IDA has put in to coordinate the local companies, and for its leadership role in showcasing Singapore companies under the Infocomm Singapore (http://www.infocommsingapore.sg/) umbrella."
