A surge in the number of infocomm manpower vacancies in 2010 has led to overall demand - which includes those employed as well as job vacancies – growing by almost 10 per cent from 2009 to reach 157,400 in 2010. These were some of the findings of the latest Annual Survey of Infocomm Manpower, which assessed the infocomm manpower pool and its profile in Singapore as at 1 June 2010.
Infocomm demand
While employed infocomm manpower grew 0.4 per cent from 140,800 in 2009 to 141,300 in 2010, the number of infocomm job vacancies grew almost six times over the same period to reach 16,100. Of these, nearly three quarters of the vacancies (74 per cent) were in infocomm organisations and the rest in end-user organisations.
Job categories
The top three job categories with the highest number of employed infocomm manpower were Operations & Support, Infocomm Sales & Marketing, and Application Engineering.
Like the figures for employed infocomm manpower, the top three job categories with the highest number of job vacancies were Operations & Support, Infocomm Sales & Marketing, and Application Engineering. Interestingly, however, Digital Media & Animation, Games Design & Development, which was eighth on the list of employed infocomm manpower, was fourth in terms of the number of job vacancies, pointing to a growing demand for expertise in this area.
