This year, Singapore hosted the 2006 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group from 13th to 20th September. With 16,000 registered delegates from 84 countries, these conferences represented the largest international financial sector conference ever hosted by Singapore to date.

To ensure that the event ran without a hitch, support was garnered from government agencies, industry players and a pool of 4000 volunteers to form Singapore 2006 (S2006). IDA chaired the communications and infrastructure sub-committee for the IMF meeting. In that capacity, IDA was responsible to put in place not just good but state of the art Infocomm infrastructure so that working conditions would be conducive for the event. In all, some 30 messaging kiosks were set up and a massive 960km of cables were rolled out.

S2006 was a showcase of Singapore's collective capabilities and an expression of our aspirations for the future - a global city with a world of opportunities.
