Interactive social networking services, personalised schedules on competition events and online maps – these are some features of the mobile experience that participants at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games will get to enjoy, thanks to the Digital Concierge for Singapore 2010 application.
The development of the “Digital Concierge for Singapore 2010” application is a partnership between the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) with Samsung, and in collaboration with SingTel. Samsung is providing over 5,000 sets of Samsung Omnia (B7300) mobile phones to athletes and key team officials while SingTel, who is the Official Multimedia Services Partner of Singapore 2010, is sponsoring the mobile subscription and software for the “Digital Concierge for Singapore 2010”.

“Digital Concierge for Singapore 2010” will enable athletes and officials to stay connected to the Games through relevant and personalised information. It will also link participants to popular social networks such as Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Wordpress, to allow participants to keep in touch with friends and share content-rich information.
The Digital Concierge services include:
- Youth Olympic Village – General information on topics such as the Youth Olympic Village Resident Centre services.
- Culture and Education Programme (CEP) – Events, content and feedback related to CEP.
- Sport Competition – An integrated sport competition schedule.
- Start List & Results – Up-to-the-minute sport competition start lists and results viewed by sport, date and venue.
- News – Singapore 2010 news and announcements.
- Venues - Sport competition, CEP and training venues.
- Fun and Promotion – Fun features such as ringtones, wallpaper, polling and mobile social networking.
- Explore Singapore – Tourism information furnished by the Singapore Tourism Board.
- Contact Us – Direct click-to-call feature to service hotlines and language assistance.
Key content on “Digital Concierge for Singapore 2010” will be available in English and French. To cater to the diverse languages spoken by the Singapore 2010 participants, a multi-lingual dictionary will be included in the application to enable real-time translation in seven languages (Chinese, English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish) supported by the mobile phones.
The “Digital Concierge for Singapore 2010” project was conceptualised, planned and developed within a year. “This is short given that preparation for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games is only about two and a half years,” noted Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer of SYOGOC. “The development of this application is coming to fruition through the hard work of multiple dedicated parties.”
Thanking IDA, Samsung and SingTel, he added, “I am confident that athletes and officials will find the Digital Concierge for Singapore 2010 a practical and useful tool during the Games.”
